Winter campouts are always made better by planning ahead, and ensuring you dont underestimate how conditions might worsen.
Sometimes its worth packing that extra pair of socks, bringing the sleeping bag liner or even some long johns to keep the shivers at bay.
On test here is a @tailfincycling aeropack with panniers that is going to see some long winter nights and days attached to different bikes with ease, thanks to its smart and effective quick release system.
Before we show you all that though, just look at the frost on those buckles eh?
Do you have an item that you wont go winter camping without?
**and dont say a hotel room key :)

Winter rides are unlike anything else, the snow creates a different world, the frost makes for wonderful shapes and catches the light so uniquely.
But - it can be really, really cold.
And while we are testing all sorts of wet weather gear, we are also getting to know more and more excellent insulating fabrics which will see you go further in colder conditions with a smile on your face.
From down, to fleece and primaloft to polartec there are all sorts of benefits to each.
The list goes on, and of course layering is a big factor, and we are compiling some of our go to solutions..
Do you have a favourite??
Also - how nice does a frosty bridleway look just after sunrise??

In February 2020 the first @atlasmountainrace took place, a 1145km race through the foot hills and heart of the Atlas mountains in Morocco, nearly 190 riders took on the course that was simply beautiful and somewhat ruthless.
@drummondphoto wrote of his experiences while taking part in not only his first bikepacking event but first race on two wheels ever.
The diary has been split into 4 pieces and the first can be read over on the site.
"These revelations in geology proving early on the satisfaction that comes with traversing a landscape by bike..
...In what felt like some kind of elongated morning the 100 or so kilometres leading upto the first real climb seemingly compressed the day, time really does fly when you're having type 2 fun."
Hit the Link in Bio to read part 1 of the AMR diary by @drummondphoto and let us know if you are taking part it in the next edition, or better yet what you thought of the 2020 event if you took part.

Cold or not - if that suns been shining you'll still need to hydrate.
Water is key to enjoying that ride, just avoid splashing through those puddles which are gonna turn your feet to ice :)
Happy Christmas again everyone!

Its that day - the 25th - the gifty day.
From all at ADVNTR Merry Christmas!!
While there is a bike here in that there picture, no one here is telling you to go ride it.
If you want to, and you can. Go for it.
if you dont thats fine too.
If there is an opportunity to go outside and appreciate the fresh air, bike or no bike. Thats awesome.
We hope however you are spending the next few days, they are enjoyable, wholesome and where possible can be spent around some excellent humans.
If its icy, be careful.
if its dark, be seen.
if its cold, wrap up warm.
If its warm, where are you? and can we come?
Happy Christmas all!

Bonus shot - of the @gussetcomponents #beardbar railing through a berm.
A seriously comfy, practical and stylish looking set of bars that allows for all types of fun whether on the trails or gentle cycleway pootles.
Also on show here are the @enduraofficial #gv500 waterproof short which have ticked alot of important boxes in the big ADVNTR Winter group test.

Currently on test with @drummondphoto are these new bars from @gussetcomponents - Named the 'Beard' bar they are a comfy and robust alloy handlebar option suitable for Mountain bike or commuter ride alike.
At 750mm wide and a generous 40 degree backsweep comfort is king, with an added sprinkling of 20 degrees upsweep they are certainly at home on klunkers and sturdy touring rigs for sure.
First impressions are many thumbs up, and things are only just heating up.
Do a set of bars like these take your fancy? or do you prefer a more classic riser?

The Low Key Lakes Weekender
Back in september, ADVNTR friend and contributor Will Jones aka @zetlandcycles set out to create an event that bucked the trend of savage miles, PBs and sufferfests.
The Low Key LakesWeekender is an all analogue good time, with map reading, happy smiles and some good old landscape appreciation.
Not only that Will set about curating a beautiful document of the event by encouraging each rider to shoot a few rolls of film too!
So were we!
"Not everyone has access to multiple bikes, or one capable of smashing along boulder strewn pathways, but they should still have the opportunity to have an adventure."
We couldn't agree more, so head on over to the site via the Link in Bio to see a wonderful gallery of images from the day and also what Will had to say about putting the event together.

Being passionate about two wheels and getting outside is a pretty spectacular recipe for testing all the gear that comes through the doors and letterboxes of ADVNTR, it helps with really squeezing out the potential from each product and also enables us to pass on the most authentic and impartial advice to help you.
More than that though, having the right kit which fits the bill enables better adventures, making all trips great and small go as smooth as can be.
On this winters Big Light Test we are churning through headlights for the trails, big battery powered beams and lights that are perfect for charging on the go.
So if you are looking to do a midweek bivvy straight from work, a five day woodland trek or some off piste mountain-bikepacking there is going to be something in here for you.
On test in this video are two options from @cateyecyclinguk the AAMP 800 up on the helmet, and the ViZ 300 on the rear, then attached to the bars is the Pro 2200 from @niteriderlights
Stay tuned to see if they last the winter, and allow for some luggage to be stowed for some deep winter wild camping.
The longest night
The suns rebirth
The winter solstice.
A sign of change as winter officially arrives along with the gradual lengthening of the days, leading us out of the darkness on a direct route to spring.
Despite one or two chilly toes, various patches of slip n slide mud and only time for a half hour visit to woods it was a perfect way to wind down and welcome in the change.
How are you spending your Solstice?
There are no wrong answers.

Over the winter months the ADVNTR team are putting a selection of bike specific lights through all sorts of testing to see just how they fare for the long nights of darkness and bikepacking trips.
With various products from all different brands on test, including road, enduro focused and mountain bike specific lights on review we are hoping to find out what is going to be the best of a pretty great bunch, and im sure the results will certainly be ..... illuminating.
Read on for Will Jones of @zetlandcycles first impressions of the @hopetech R2
"Occasionally my unusual taste in componentry sometimes throws up issues when testing products. In this case I was initially unable to mount the Hope R2 front light until I tracked down a suitable shim for my 22.2mm bars.
Once fitted they remained secure, though not quite as straight as I’d have hoped for, but this is par for the course with big shims. The build quality is, as always, excellent from Hope. Beautifully machined aluminium throughout with sensible adjustment screws throughout.
Thanks to the short body of the light itself it didn't interfere with the crossbar of my moto bars, though the external battery pack had a habit of becoming skew on the split top tube of my bike. Further testing on a standard tube is required.
The light itself is very bright, especially head on. The beam is brightest towards the centre but tails off rather fast to leave a wide but much dimmer beam. On wide trails this was perfectly adequate, but on technical sections a supplementary head torch was required.
Fortunately Hope supply their lights with a helmet mount too, meaning I can give it some test hours mounted up top to see if that improves things on the wiggly stuff."
More first impressions to come from the other units on test soon.

Pedal choice is always quite personal, whether you want the freedom of flats or the security of clipless, each has their benefits.
On test now are these nylon Slim Jim @gussetcomponents pedals, first impressions are great, and @drummondphoto is certainly surprised by the minimal flex in the plastic used in them and impressed with the inclusion of metal pins to ensure a nice grippy platform in the wet weather....
A sometimes overlooked element in plastic pedals.
There are all sorts of pedals on review currently here at @advntr.cc with options from @restrap @lookcycle and @hopetech along with others lined up for some thorough testing, we are excited to see how the fair moving into the winter season.
Hot brews and crisp mornings are a mighty fine combination.
If that sounds like something you are into, well the ADVNTR x Earthwell Roaster Flask is the ticket.

Back in October @Clairefrecknall joined a few riders to see what the Isle Of Wight had to offer up for some two wheeled fun.
But this was a trip with a slight difference, no stuffing of bivvys and roll matts into bags here
This is Glampacking on the Isle Of Wight.
Hit up the site via the Link in Bio and read more about riding across the biggest Island in the UK in style and comfort.

Another excellent addition to the big soggy winter test are these DWR coated ‘Glidepath Pants’ from @7meshinc, @cadence_images has been getting them moving while trudging through local tracks in the North to see just see how effective they are.
First impressions are good and as you can see the DWR coating is beading up the spray and rain nicely.
Here is what Dan had to say.
“I Wore them over winter long tights, and actually put them on mid ride, while not micro packable, they fit pretty well in my Wizard Works Presto Bar bag with room to spare, but I’d always find room for them on a winter or long ride. Fit feels great, and the tapered legs didn’t feel too tight either and the pockets are perfect, waist adjustment is real dialled but could maybe do with a higher waist band. All good so far!!"
