What we collect, and why
Reading the site. advntr.cc is a static website, and our own code sets no cookies. Google scripts that we load (Google Analytics and the consent message) set some on advntr.cc, and Google's advertising and Cloudflare set others. They are listed below. Embedded services set their own, and their policies apply.
Analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see which pages are read and roughly where visitors come from. It is cookieless, does not fingerprint devices and does not track you across other sites. We use it under our legitimate interest in understanding what readers find useful.
Google Analytics. We also use Google Analytics to see where readers come from, which pages they read, how far they scroll, which links they follow off the site and what they search for here. In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland it sets no cookies until you agree in the consent message Google shows on our pages, and your consent is our lawful basis for those cookies. Until you agree, each page you view and each action we measure sends Google a request with no cookie or identifier in it. The request carries the page address (including anything you typed into our search), the page you came from, your browser, device and screen size, and your IP address, which Google uses to work out a rough location and does not store in Google Analytics. We send these requests under our legitimate interest in knowing how the site is used, and Google may use them to estimate visits it can't count directly. If you agree, Google Analytics sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_9T7CL0KS8N, which last up to 13 months from your last visit. Outside those countries it sets them when the page loads. Google Analytics deletes data linked to these cookies after 14 months. Google may transfer the data to Google LLC in the United States, which is certified under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland you can change your answer at any time from the "Privacy and cookie settings" link Google shows at the bottom of the page. Wherever you are, you can stop Google Analytics by blocking or deleting its cookies in your browser, or with Google's opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Advertising. Our pages carry a small number of advertisements served by Google AdSense. If you are in the UK, the EEA or Switzerland you will be asked, through a Google-certified consent tool, whether you agree to personalised advertising before any advertising cookie is set. If you decline, Google may still show non-personalised ads, which use cookies only for frequency capping and fraud prevention. You can change your choice at any time from the "Privacy and cookie settings" link at the bottom of the page, and you can read how Google uses data from partner sites at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Embedded content. Route maps (komoot), videos (YouTube, Vimeo) and similar embeds are loaded from those services when you open a page that contains them, and those services may set their own cookies. Their privacy policies apply.
Email. If you email us we keep the correspondence for as long as we need it to deal with your query, and for competitions and giveaways for as long as the terms of that promotion require.
Comments. Comments left on the original WordPress site between 2017 and 2023 are shown as a read-only archive with the name the commenter gave at the time. Email addresses, IP addresses and website links from those comments have been deleted. If you left a comment and want it removed, email us.

Your rights
You can ask us what personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email [email protected] and we will reply within a month. If you are unhappy with our answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
We will update this page when the way we handle data changes. This version was written for the relaunch of the site in October 2026. We updated it on 7 October 2026 when we added Google Analytics.
