Last year, the ADVNTR nomads made their way up to Yorkshire to take part in the second iteration of Yorkshire True Grit. The event was bound to be a hit with us for two reasons. John’s love of grass roots events and James’ fierce support for all things Yorkshire! Those reasons aside, it was a really enjoyable event. The catering (Editor’s note – the porridge and bacon rolls are worth the trip on their own!), beer, music and quiet camp site were ideal and the route….
Billed as challenging, it lived up to expectations. My gravel bike went to places I never dreamed it would go. Fantastic. Could it get any better?
Working hard to introduce new challenges
It seems that the team at Yorkshire True Grit has been working hard behind the scenes to improve last year’s route. While event HQ remains the same (High Paradise Farm, Boltby), the routes will be different!
Yorkshire True Grit has secured support from three private estates for this year’s event! Largely based on existing relationships with landowners and gamekeepers, this increased access is due, in no small part, to the respect shown by last year’s riders.
The 7 mile section of private land that many saw as the highlight of The Outlaw (the 60 mile route) is back. Not only that, it has been extended onto two neighbouring estates.
The same… but different!
The changes don’t stop there though, the maps have been out, the bikes have been out, even the dog has been out, scouting for the very best to challenge riders taking part this year.
“We don’t want to be complacent, we want participants to feel challenged every time they come to Yorkshire True Grit, and by changing the route we are able to bring new challenges in to the event, whether that’s new singletrack, new climbs or new descents. We’ve probably re-routed about 75% of the route of The Outlaw, and 50% of The Drive (the 40 mile route), so people will be familiar with some elements – although may be not in the direction they’ll come at them this year! Be warned though, Debs has had more of a hand in the planning this year as I’m injured and she is a fan of a good hill climb…”

Please note that entries for The Outlaw are limited this year because of ground nesting birds and conservation work that takes place in the area.
