I say eventually, as it really is off the beaten track, but it stands proud in the moorlands as an oasis to cyclists and really is worth getting lost for. After slinging the Sat Nav out of the window and driving on instinct (it helped that I have a vague memory of the area from previous cycle trips), we finally pointed the van up the long driveway leading to the ‘Hub.
The Yorkshire Cycle Hub only opened at the back end of Summer 2016 and on the day of our visit, there was still a lot of activity going on as they worked hard on finishing building work for their bunkhouse. But what we found was a café loaded to the rafters with cake and scones, a small but busy workshop and a bike shop. Bike hire is available and so too is a bike wash.
In the Heart of The Moors
The Hub is located centrally within the Moors and only short journey from Dalby Forest, Sutton Bank and Guisborough. But the real gem is of course the North Yorkshire Moors which offer an abundance of natural trails and excellent country roads that please any cyclist whether they enjoy riding off-road or sticking to tarmac. The Tour de Yorkshire has passed through Great Fryup, so that gives you a good indication of the quality of riding available!
Shortly the Hub will offer bunk house accommodation with en-suite bathrooms and camping pods. There is also a drying room and showers, making it the perfect stopover for weary travellers.
Hot Coffee and roasting fires
We dropped in on a wet Wednesday afternoon and enjoyed the coffee which was supplied from the Baytown Coffee Company, another Yorkshire Moors favourite, along with some delicious cheese scones. As every discerning cyclist knows, good coffee is what maketh the Coffee Stop and this blend of java did not disappoint! The café had the log burner roaring away, so we were soon warm and toasty after a wet days cycling.
If you need something more hearty in your belly, their full time kitchen staff will rustle up anything from a Great Fryup to smoked salmon fishcakes.
Marin Bikes are available for hire and to buy from the small but well stocked shop and there is ample parking onsite.

The Yorkshire Cycle Hub is located in Fryup, North Yorkshire nestled in the valley between Rosedale Abbey and Danby.

We were excited to visit the Bikehub but found the reception very cold and a cliquey vibe amongst the staff and some others already in the shop. It’s early days as you say, but don’t think Ill rush back any time soon.
