8th April 2018. Event HQ – Holmesfield, Derbyshire
Provisional route data – 107.7 km 2209 m ascent, 35% off road.
The Hardcore 100 is an unsupported un-marshalled cycling adventure on the quiet, roads, byways and bridleways of the Peak District National Park.
With over 100 km of riding and 2000 m of ascent, the event is based on the traditional early season reliability style event, where not speed, but the ability to successfully complete an un-signed pre-determined route is the aim.
The route is around 30% off road on bridleways and byways and is suitable for a cyclocross, gravel or mountain bike. Using a skinny tyred racing bike will probably result in a long walk.
There are no feed stations on the event. The organisers aim is that riders buy food and drink en-route to contribute to the local economy that they are travelling through.
Riders navigate by following a GPX route which will be provided a few days before the start. One of the aims is to try and get riders to think a bit more rather than just follow the arrows which happens on some events.
Organiser and route planner Paul Gregory said “I’ve been riding in the Peak District for over 35 years and wanted to showcase some of my favourite routes. I was also conscious that I wanted to help our local economy and getting people to buy food and drink whilst riding seemed an obvious way to do this. Whilst it is a tough route I have tried to make it sustainable as possible and have chosen bridleways and byways that are rideable in all weathers.”
With only 150 places available, the event aims to develop a low key feel to it which will keep it more special and personal than larger events.
