The Distance: Two Days in the Peak District

The Distance 2018

Described by many as “The most fun event in 2017”, The Distance is back. Two days of self-supported adventure ‘with benefits‘ in the Peak District on 9th – 10th June.

Beneficial Bikepacking?!

In a nutshell, ‘The Distance’ is an organised bikepacking trip in the Peaks. You’ll need to carry your own sleeping kit, and be able to support yourself. When you arrive at the overnight stop though, you can expect a few more luxuries than the typical camp.

You can leave your cooking kit at home. A lavish evening of food, drink and socialising with your fellow riders awaits. For those of us new to the whole bikepacking game, The Distance promises to be the perfect introduction to getting out there and making your own adventures!

The Distance: More than a bikepacking trip

While riding in the Peak District for the day and then camping out with your buddies sounds pretty cool, naturally it needs that quirky little twist for which Focal Events have gained a reputation. Look no further than the Dirty Reiver if you are in any doubt of their handiwork.

Each rider will depart from Event HQ in Buxton and visit a series of checkpoints throughout the day. There are up to 3 route options at every checkpoint and your arrival time will determine which route option you are given.

Weather TBC. Fun guaranteed.

Quite simply, the faster you ride the further you go. Or as organisers Focal Events see it, the more sociable you are, the shorter the distance to the comfort of camp.

Oh and the route you’ll be taking? You won’t know the route until you get to the checkpoint. Nor will you know the ultimate destination until you get there! Fun? We think so.

Gin and Win!

Some will ride 80+ miles, some closer to 50 miles, but all will arrive to hot food, a comfortable camp and even a gin bar with craft spirits from White Peak Distillery. The overnight stop gives an opportunity to relive the day with friends old and new.

But that is not all. Event sponsor Marin Bikes will be hanging out at the campfire on the Saturday night and one lucky entrant to The Distance will be picked at random to win a Marin Four Corners adventure bike!

Goodies from other key sponsors including WTB, Ass Savers and Chimpanzee Energy will also be on offer throughout the weekend. Sounds good, right?
