Chasing Trails – MTB Coast to Coast

Chasing Trails Coast to Coast

If the idea of a cycling adventure has ever crossed your mind, but the thought of roughing it on a windy hillside in a bivi, or getting lost on the moors puts you off, then this might just be for you.

Chasing Trails have been running guided MTB rides from St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay since 2008 and SMBLA Mountain Bike Leader, Steve, has perfected the route and stop-over points to memory. If challenged to ride it blind folded, he probably could.

A 6 day off road tour without the fear of getting lost and the comforts of B&B accommodation? It sounds like the ideal starter for anyone wanting to dip a toe into the world of adventure cycling!

There are only 6 places in total & it’s looking like they might disappear reasonably quickly, so get in touch if you want some challenging trails mixed with some great scenery.

Route – St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay

Coast to Coast with Chasing TrailsIf you’re thinking about riding a mountain bike coast to coast, the challenge and quality of the riding is likely to be top of the list. So the route is from St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay as we reckon it has the best trails & scenery. We head through the Lakes to the Dales via Kirkby Stephen, then the North York Moors.

Black Sail Pass, Garburn Pass, the Pennine Way and Swaledale are all on route. As well as great trails, the scenery is stunning. We could ride the route in less, but 6 days gives time to experience the landscape as well as ride. You’ll still need to be OK with riding 35 or more hard off-road miles a day (some days are shorter).

You’ll know that trail centre miles are more strenuous than road miles – much of the coast to coast route is a lot more effort than typical trail centre riding. In general though, you’ll feel the riding getting easier each day. Although it’s a mountain bike coast to coast, tarmac does feature, but we keep to off-road as much as we can.

The Chasing Trails Coast to Coast is fully guided and includes B&B accommodation, packed lunches and baggage transfer.
